Write your thesis
with Simula UiB?

Read on to learn more about our opportunities.

One of our core activities is to train and educate researchers in cyber security. At Simula UiB you can write your thesis under the supervision of one of our researchers and take part in the scientific and social environment at our research centre.

Master and doctoral studies

At Simula UiB we supervise master’s and PhD students in our two core research areas: Cryptography and Information Theory. Our students receive high-quality supervision in an excellent and stimulating research environment and get to work on cutting-edge research topics. We accept motivated students with a background in both informatics and mathematics who after a successful project at Simula UiB will have a good starting point for a career in research. The University of Bergen (UiB) is our main degree-awarding institution. The majority of our master’s and PhD students are enrolled at UiB. We may also accept students from other academic institutions.

How to become a Simula UiB

Master student

To apply as a master’s student at Simula UiB, you must be enrolled at a collaborating degree-granting institution such as a University or a University College and have completed a bachelor’s degree in a related field with a minimum grade average of C. Most of our students are enrolled in the master’s program in secure and reliable communication at UiB.

Once admitted to a master’s program, you must contact the potential supervisor(s) you are interested in working with. A good time for this if you’re a UiB student is during the introductory meeting for new master students, when students visit our office and meet potential supervisors. At this meeting, you’ll also learn about available projects.

Please note that admission to the master’s program at UiB is not a guarantee of being accepted at Simula UiB. We accept students based on their motivation, background and grades. For more information, please contact the administration at bergen@simula.no.

Do you want to your

PhD with us?

At Simula UiB, we hire doctoral students both for three and four years. The four-year contract includes one year of compulsory work, which may be teaching, programming, or other relevant tasks. Our available positions are announced here.

Once employed at Simula UiB, our PhD students need to be admitted to UiB’s doctoral program. For information about UiB’s doctoral programme, including admission requirements, please have a look at UiB’s website.

Internships

Offering internships to bachelor’s and master’s students gives them the opportunity to gain relevant work experience and learn about everyday life at a research centre. You may read more about the Simula group’s internships here.

Simula UiB is a research center owned by Simula Research Laboratory and the University of Bergen.
